(More customer reviews)I had to replace my OEM mirror because I sideswiped a pole (getting old) and knocked the mirror completely off the car. I tried to take it apart but it didn't come apart so I decided to buy this as a replacement for the $195 OEM. You get what you pay for!
It installed ok on my 2002 Dream Cruiser but it doesn't fit against the door as tight as the OEM did. There is about a 1/8" gap between the door and the top of the housing. I'm sure the weatherstripping around the base will probably be ok but the gap bothers me. Won't know until a car wash or rain. I put some silicone sealer around the base just in case! It looks just like the OEM mirror once installed except for that small gap. I have no idea whether the glass heater works or not since it doesn't get that cold here. The mirror plugged in easy enough once I figured how to get the door panel off and the mounting was exactly the same as the OEM. That is where the similarity ends! The mirror motor is quite noisy and cheesy sounding compared to the OEM. When you get to the maximum extended range (up, down, left, right) it makes a nasty "end of range" gear clicking sound and doesn't go out even close to the range of the OEM. When the window is open, I can really hear the motor when I adjust the mirror. I finally pushed the mirror out as far as it would go with a lot of clicking sounds. Then it would go in and out like the OEM. Then I adjusted the up/down motion the same way. It sounded like gears stripping when I did this but it was ok. Now the up/down range was great but the in/out range sucked again. I finally figured out if I pushed the mirror out and down at the same time (still hearing that terrible gear clicking sound, the range finally approximated the OEM. I don't know how long this mirror will last because it definitely is not built as well as the OEM but at 1/3 the price, if it does last, I'll be happy now that I have apparently fixed the range problem.
